Why did it take us 15 hours to dig just 5 post holes? Welcome back to Our Mountain Home! In today’s off-grid homesteading vlog, we start the day by heading over to visit our good friend Mama V from @possumrunhomestead after church. We give her a hand and haul her old camper over to Steve’s new place before returning home to tackle one of the toughest projects yet—digging post holes for the support beams of our future roof over camp.
The Arkansas ground is so dry and rock-hard that even using a 3-point post hole auger on our John Deere tractor couldn’t make the job easy. After 15 hours of running the auger, we’ve only managed to dig 5 holes! That’s how tough this soil is. We’re hoping the coming rain will soften things up so we can finally make progress on the next set of post holes.
